Learn by Playing

As I worked on preparing the workshop for tomorrow, I have become more clear about the idea that one of the best ways to learn about ICT is to play with it.

Lili, from Chile, commented that she did not understand how teenagers know enough to hack into internationally profiled organisations, and her husband, a programmer, told her that they learn the skills by playing for hours with computers.

Teachers at Cashmere are asking for PD on the new laptops. A valid request, but difficult to address as I don't have one of the new models. Those of us who are used to working with ICT generally have a "Try and See What Happens" attitude. We are not - t00 - scared of causing problems, and we are willing to take some risks and experiment.

The clipart that I have used in the presentation is based on the theme of toys. Little children learn by playing, and adults can do this too.

Please comment on this posting stating what you favourite ICT toy to play with is. My current addication is Spider Solitaire, the two suit version. What is yours?

Accessing Blogs at School

At Cashmere, it seems that our web filtering software objects to blogs and won't let people comment on them. Does anyone have any ideas about how to get around this problem? If you do, or even if you just want to share your frustration, please post a comment here - if you do not yet have a blogger account you will need to set one up first.

Post Number One

This is the first post in my new blog. I am making this blog for teachers who want to learn about blogging, as I am planning a workshop about blogging and other new ideas later in the month.
